Linwood Cemetery

Located in Macon (Macon-Bibb County, Georgia), Linwood Cemetery is the city’s private African-American Cemetery. Linwood’s 13 acres property is located on Pursley Street. There are approximately 4,000 graves.

Care of the cemetery is the responsibility of Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation and Historic Linwood Cemetery. The property currently is in rather poor condition with many sunken markers, grave damage, fallen limbs, and brickwork and trash lying scattered about. Care should be taken when walking through the cemetery.


The cemetery was established in 1894 but documented burials date back to 1843. It remains an active cemetery with recent burials.
