PRESERVATION ALLIANCE
MISSION STATEMENT
The MGPA is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the documentation, maintenance, and preservation of Middle Georgia’s irreplaceable cultural resources, including underground and above-ground prehistoric and historic archaeological sites (activity areas, mounds, villages, etc.); historical documents, maps, and photographs; burial grounds, churchyards and cemeteries; battlefields and forts; and the sites and/ or acreage of both standing historic structures (bridges, churches, kilns, mills, agricultural outbuildings, etc.) and their ruins throughout Middle Georgia. The Middle Georgia area is defined as a 23 county geographic network across the state including but not limited to the following counties: Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Crawford, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Laurens, Macon, Monroe, Peach, Pike, Pulaski, Putnam, Spalding, Taylor, Twiggs, Upson, and Wilkinson. Historic homes will generally be excluded from preservation efforts in favor of other resources listed in the Mission Statement because historic homes typically have multiple preservation supporters. Exemptions may be granted for historic homes that are associated with other structures (family burial grounds, grist mill remains, or other activity areas).
