Bone Cemetery

Updated: May 19, 2022

Located in Georgia’s Old Capitol of Milledgeville (Baldwin County, Georgia), Bone Cemetery is a primarily African-American cemetery. It is named after the Bone family who owned the land and began the cemetery in about 1940. Bone Cemetery is located on N. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. between N. Clarke St. and N. Wilkinson St.

Date of visit: 15 December 2021

The cemetery is well taken care of with very minimal damage or vandalism.

Burials from approximately 1925 to present

Notable residents include:

Sallie Ellis Davis

As with many African-American cemeteries, many markers are made of cement with letters that are stamped by hand. The largest and most amazing example I’ve seen of this type of marker is shown above in the Oden family plot which includes an over 6-foot tall anchor and 2 large stars.
